The rivalry between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo will continue until the final moments of their careers, and now the Argentine flea has a one-point advantage over the Portuguese Don.
Messi participated in Inter Miami’s 5-1 victory over the New York Red Bulls in the American League on Sunday morning, scoring the fourth and fifth goals.
Messi increased his career tally of goals scored, excluding penalties, to 764, surpassing Ronaldo’s 763 goals.
The 37-year-old’s superiority is evident in the fact that he scored this large number of goals in 167 fewer matches than Cristiano Ronaldo.
This competition will remain wide open between Ronaldo and Messi, and with the Saudi League returning in August, it is expected that the Don will continue to score goals outside of penalties.
Messi has practically surpassed Ronaldo in his career in terms of individual and team titles. The Flea has won the Ballon d’Or eight times, compared to only five for Ronaldo. He has also won the World Cup with Argentina, a feat Ronaldo has yet to achieve with Portugal.
On the other hand, Cristiano Ronaldo has won the Champions League five times with two different clubs, compared to only three for Messi. The 40-year-old has also won the English, Spanish, and Italian leagues during his career, while the Argentine has only won the Spanish and French leagues.
