Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappé has announced that he will not attend the 2025 Ballon d’Or gala, realizing he will not win the award this year.
Mbappé won only the UEFA Super Cup and the Intercontinental Cup with Real Madrid last season, but his individual performances were impressive, and he became the highest-scoring rookie in his first season with Los Blancos.
Mbappé is on a list of 30 Ballon d’Or nominees. When asked about the ceremony scheduled for next Monday in Paris, he replied, “I will watch the ceremony on TV and I hope Ousmane Dembélé wins it.”
He added, “To win an award, you have to win titles, so I have to help my team win titles, and then we’ll see.”
He concluded, “I would be happy if Ousmane Dembélé wins it because he is my friend and I have supported him from the beginning.”
Mbappé has started this season exceptionally well, scoring six goals in his first five matches in all competitions. He hopes to lead Real Madrid to titles and compete strongly for the 2026 Ballon d’Or.
Real Madrid has decided to boycott the 2025 Ballon d’Or ceremony, continuing its opposition to France Football’s position since awarding the award to Rodri over Vinicius Junior last year.
