Fenerbahçe has reached a definitive agreement to sign English forward Mason Greenwood on a permanent transfer from Olympique de Marseille during the current summer transfer window.
According to renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the blockbuster deal will cost the Turkish club approximately €40 million, making Greenwood one of the most expensive signings in the history of Turkish football.
Key Details of the Greenwood Transfer:
-
Transfer Fee: €40 million.
-
Contract Duration: Until June 2030.
-
Net Salary: Around €10 million annually.
-
Manchester United Sell-on Clause: Over €10 million (due to a percentage clause secured during his 2024 departure).
Earlier this summer, Greenwood was heavily linked with a move to Atletico Madrid. However, the Spanish club eventually pulled out of negotiations, paving the way for Fenerbahçe to secure his signature after the player made his decision to leave Marseille.
From Manchester United Prodigy to Marseille’s Star Man
Greenwood’s football journey began at the Manchester United Academy at just six years old. He rapidly rose through the ranks to make his UEFA Champions League debut against Paris Saint-Germain in March 2019. At just 17 years old, he became the second-youngest player to ever represent the Red Devils in European competitions.
In Ligue 1, Greenwood completely revitalized his career. He finished last season as Marseille’s top scorer, netting 16 goals and providing 7 assists in 32 league matches. His standout moment was a historic four-goal haul against Le Havre, making him the first Marseille player to score a quadruple in a single match since the legendary Jean-Pierre Papin in 1991.
