Al-Nassr will be unable to sign Marseille star Mason Greenwood after Cristiano Ronaldo recommended him to join coach Jorge Jesus’ squad, according to TalkSport.
Saudi press reports indicated that Ronaldo informed Al-Nassr’s management of the need to sign Greenwood to become the second attacking reinforcement after Joao Felix, especially since the Portuguese is well aware of his abilities from their time together at Manchester United.
However, the deal currently appears close to impossible. TalkSport confirms that Al-Nassr contacted Marseille officials to explore the possibility of acquiring the English player, but the response was clear that “the player is not for sale.”
At the same time, even if Marseille eventually agrees to a sale, it would require a very large sum of money, as Manchester United still retains a 50% stake in the player. Thus, the French club’s potential gain from selling him would be minimal unless the deal is extremely large.
Marseille is said to be open to selling Greenwood only if an offer of more than €100 million arrives, a sum that Al-Nassr is unlikely to pay for the 23-year-old, and the club would prefer to move to other stars in other positions.
It should be noted that Greenwood recently obtained a Jamaican passport and is in the process of officially changing his sporting nationality from England to Jamaica, after being excluded from the Three Lions’ plans due to the rape case he was accused of three years ago.
