Marmoush scores a bizarre goal against Newcastle

Omar Marmoush continued his impressive form for Manchester City, this time in the second leg of the 2026 Carabao Cup semi-final against Newcastle.

The Egyptian international had already attracted considerable attention after scoring against Wolverhampton in the Premier League two weeks prior, regaining the trust of manager Pep Guardiola.

The tactician decided to start the “Egyptian Prince” against Newcastle at the Etihad Stadium, leaving Erling Haaland on the bench.

Marmoush needed only six minutes to make his mark. He found himself one-on-one with the Newcastle goalkeeper but failed to control the ball properly. Dan Brown intervened to save it, but in a bizarre fashion, the ball deflected off Marmoush and into the net, giving City an early lead.

Marmoush then added a second goal in the 29th minute after a rebound fell to him in front of the goal, which he headed into the net.

Newcastle has been Marmoush’s favorite opponent since joining City in the winter of 2014, with the 25-year-old having scored a total of five goals against the Magpies.

Marmoush had already scored a hat-trick against Newcastle on February 15, 2025, during City’s 4-0 victory at the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League.

City won the first leg of their semi-final against Newcastle 2-0 and will face Arsenal in the final next month.
