The Egyptian national team secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Zimbabwe in their opening match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations group stage.
Despite a promising start from the Pharaohs, Zimbabwe capitalized on their first attack, with Prince Dobe scoring in the 20th minute.
Hossam Hassan surprised everyone by substituting Emam Ashour in the 30th minute with Mostafa Mohamed, hoping for an early equalizer. However, Egypt’s first goal was delayed until the second half.
With a brilliant individual effort, Omar Marmoush, the Manchester City star, leveled the score for the Pharaohs in the 64th minute.
As the match drew to a close, Mohamed Salah, with his vast experience and exceptional skill, scored the winning goal for Egypt, securing three crucial points for the Nile Valley.
With this victory, Egypt shares the top spot in the group with South Africa, both teams having three points after Bafana Bafana’s 2-1 win over Angola earlier today.
