Manchester United has increased its offer to RB Leipzig for Benjamin Sesko to a record amount, reflecting the Red Devils’ desire to secure the Slovenian international’s services during the current summer transfer window.
There is intense competition between United and Newcastle for Sesko’s services. On Monday, the Magpies submitted a substantial offer of €90 million, after Leipzig rejected a €65 million bid a few days earlier.
According to The Athletic, United has responded to Newcastle’s offer with another record bid. The English giants are prepared to pay Leipzig €75 million guaranteed, plus another €10 million in variables, for a total of €85 million, to complete the deal for Sesko.
Initial reports from Germany indicated that Cesko was more inclined to join Manchester United, even though this would mean he would miss out on European club competitions next season, unlike Newcastle, who will participate in the Champions League.
Leipzig’s management has not yet responded positively or negatively to the offer from United or Newcastle, pending Cesko’s final decision on which club he prefers.
Cesko has been one of the most prominent strikers in the German league over the past two seasons, scoring 27 goals and providing seven assists in 64 Bundesliga appearances for Leipzig.
If he joins United, he will be Ruben Amorim’s fourth signing, following the €70 million signings of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers, Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford, and left-back Diego Leon from Cerro Porteno for €4 million.
