Officials from Manchester United and Chelsea have denied claims made by Jurgen Klopp’s agent regarding the two clubs’ attempts to sign the German coach over the past two years.
Klopp’s agent, Michael Kosicke, gave a lengthy interview in which he alleged that Chelsea tried to sign Klopp immediately after he left Liverpool, and that United also tried to secure his services before signing Ruben Amorim.
Kosicke asserted that Klopp rejected both offers, not only because he wanted to step away from coaching, but also out of respect for Liverpool and its vast fanbase. The German coach reportedly has no intention of working in the Premier League again except with the Reds.
The Athletic initially contacted Manchester United, and the Red Devils’ management confirmed that they had never been in contact with Klopp or his agent and that he had never been on the club’s radar.
Similarly, Chelsea officials confirmed that Koscielny’s claims were purely speculative, and that no contact had been made with Klopp during 2024.
It’s worth noting that Klopp currently serves as the global head of football at Red Bull and is attracting significant interest from Real Madrid, who are keen to appoint him as their manager next season, replacing Álvaro Arbeloa.
