Liverpool manager Arne Slott has announced that goalkeeper Alisson Becker will be sidelined for an extended period due to injury.
The Brazilian goalkeeper has been out of action since sustaining the injury after the Champions League Round of 16 second leg against Galatasaray, a match Liverpool won 4-0 to advance to the quarter-finals against Paris Saint-Germain.
The nature of Alisson’s injury has not been disclosed, but it appears to be serious, as he also missed Brazil’s international break in March.
Ahead of Liverpool’s FA Cup quarter-final against Manchester City, Slott was asked about Alisson’s situation. He replied, “He won’t be part of the PSG game either. He’ll be out for a bit longer, and we expect him to be fit towards the end of the season.”
Alisson Becker wrote on his X platform account that the expected date for his return is at the beginning of May, and thus the Brazilian has been practically ruled out of most of the crucial matches in the final stretch of the season.
This marks the fourth time the 33-year-old goalkeeper has been sidelined this season alone due to injury or illness.
This absence means Giorgi Mamardashvili will be relied upon for the most crucial matches of the season, as Liverpool aim to compete for the Champions League and FA Cup titles, in addition to their decisive battle to finish in the top five of the Premier League.
