Al-Ahli star Riyad Mahrez believes that Cristiano Ronaldo was right to consider the Saudi League one of the top five leagues in the world today.
Ronaldo has repeatedly expressed the strength of the Roshen League, considering it stronger than many European leagues, including the French Ligue 1. He also stated that, thanks to the players and the tremendous competition within it, it has become one of the top five leagues in the world.
Mahrez, who arrived in Saudi Arabia six months after Ronaldo, was asked about his opinion of the Portuguese’s statement. He replied, “No, I don’t agree.”
He added, “The five leagues are still the best, but we’re not far behind them. The goal isn’t for the league to be among the best in the world, but rather a long-term vision.”
He continued, “Players like me, who came at the beginning, are like pioneers and are helping to make the league stronger, and it is indeed evolving.”
He concluded, “The officials have a long-term goal of making the Saudi League one of the top five leagues in the world. They know this, and I believe they will ultimately succeed.”
It’s worth noting that Mahrez played 78 matches with Al-Ahli in all competitions, scoring 29 goals and providing 35 assists. He won one title with the “Castle of Cups,” the AFC Champions League.
