Lionel Messi suffered a heavy defeat with his team, Inter Miami, against Chicago Fire, 5-3, in their match on Sunday morning in the American League.
The most fitting title for this defeat may be that luck was against Messi greatly, as the 37-year-old missed several easy opportunities, in a manner never typical of the Flea.
The most notable and strangest opportunity came in the 52nd minute, when Messi was alone in front of the Chicago Fire goalkeeper and shot the ball perfectly. Unfortunately, it hit the left post, then rebounded to Allende, who unleashed a thunderous shot, but this time it hit the crossbar.

The 5-3 defeat to Chicago Fire was Messi’s fourth-heaviest defeat with Inter Miami in his career, following losses to Paris Saint-Germain (4-0), Minnesota United (4-1), and Charlotte (3-0), but it remains one of the rare occasions he has lost by a specific five-goal margin.
The 8-2 defeat with Barcelona to Bayern Munich in the 2020 Champions League remains Messi’s heaviest defeat, followed by the 6-1 loss with Argentina to Bolivia.
Despite the defeat, Inter Miami maintains its chances of reaching the playoffs and competing for the MLS title, as Javier Mascherano’s side currently sits in fourth place with 56 points.
Messi remains the MLS’s leading scorer with 24 goals, one ahead of his closest rival, Los Angeles FC’s Denis Bouanga.
