The final moments of Monday’s Barcelona-Girona match witnessed an incredible display of bad luck for the Catalan club.
Barça were awarded a penalty, and Lamine Yamal stepped up to take it, but his brilliant shot struck the left post of goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga.
The ball rebounded to Rafinha, who also took a shot, but it too hit the post, and so Hansi Flick’s men squandered the chance to take the lead in the Catalan derby.
With this missed penalty, Barcelona became the team with the most missed penalties in La Liga this season, having missed three out of the seven awarded so far.
Flick’s frustration was evident as he couldn’t believe how Yamal had missed the penalty and the subsequent chance for Rafinha.
