Liverpool FC have officially decided to dismiss manager Arne Slot following a deeply underwhelming campaign at Anfield. According to renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano, the club’s board opted for an immediate change after the team’s performance took a sharp downturn starting last November.
Despite the slump, the hierarchy waited until the end of the season to conduct a comprehensive review. The final assessment led to the conclusion that Slot’s tenure must end. Although the Dutchman led the Reds to a Premier League title in his debut season (2024), this year saw the club finish 6th, failing to secure any silverware, though they did manage to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
Slot’s Record at Anfield
Arne Slot leaves Liverpool having managed 113 matches, with a record of 66 wins, 29 defeats, and 18 draws. While his early success provided hope, the consistency required to maintain Liverpool’s elite status was lacking in his second term.
Andoni Iraola: The New Leader of the Reds
In a swift move, former Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola has emerged as the chosen successor. The Basque tactician was reportedly on the verge of joining Bayer Leverkusen, with interest also coming from AC Milan and Crystal Palace. However, once Liverpool entered the race, Iraola redirected his focus toward Anfield.
Iraola’s stock has risen significantly following his impressive stint at Rayo Vallecano and most recently guiding Bournemouth to a 7th-place finish in the Premier League. Notably, Xabi Alonso—another long-term target—was unavailable for the role after recently taking the helm at Chelsea.
