English media outlets have reported that Arne Slot is well aware his tenure as Liverpool manager is nearing its end.
The Reds drew 1-1 with Tottenham on Sunday in the Premier League, intensifying criticism of Slot, especially after the 1-0 defeat to Galatasaray in Turkey in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16.
According to recent reports, Liverpool’s management held a meeting with Slot after the Galatasaray match and informed him of the need for a strong response against Tottenham, not only in terms of the result but also the performance.
Liverpool’s management made it clear that a victory against Spurs and a convincing performance were essential; otherwise, Slot would be completely out of the club’s plans for the future. The Dutchman understood this, but to no avail.
Now, Slot knows that, at best, he will leave Liverpool at the end of the season, with the possibility of an earlier dismissal if he fails to overcome Galatasaray in the Champions League.
There is a verbal agreement between Liverpool’s management and Xabi Alonso for him to take over next season, and this agreement will undoubtedly be activated. However, the timing is currently unknown and will depend entirely on what happens in next Wednesday’s match.
It’s worth noting that Slott won the Premier League title with Liverpool last season, and after a massive summer transfer window, the Reds were expected to continue their dominance in English football. However, the team has declined significantly and currently sits in sixth place in the league.
