Lewandowski decides to retire from international football

Barcelona star Robert Lewandowski appears poised to officially announce his international retirement following Poland’s failure to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.

Lewandowski played in his country’s 3-2 defeat to Sweden in the European playoff final, meaning he will miss the World Cup for the first time after participating in the 2018 Russia and 2022 Qatar tournaments.

After the match, the 37-year-old posted a picture of himself wearing the Polish captain’s armband, accompanied by the song “Time to Say Goodbye.”

It seems that Lewandowski, who previously retired from international football two years ago before returning after a change in the national team coach, has made his final decision to end his international career and focus on his club next season.

Lewandowski has made 165 appearances for Poland in all competitions since 2008, scoring 89 goals – nearly double the tally of any other Polish player in history.

Lewandowski has yet to decide which club he will play for next season, as his contract with Barcelona expires at the end of the current season. It seems likely he will leave Barça, despite having received a renewal offer from the Blaugrana, but with a significant pay cut and no guarantee of a starting position.
