Barcelona president Joan Laporta expressed his confidence that the Catalan club can return from the Santiago Bernabéu with three points against Real Madrid, indicating that his team will repeat what they did last year in the Spanish capital.
Barcelona met Real Madrid four times last season, once at the Bernabéu in La Liga, winning 4-0. They also won the other three matches, between Montjuïc and Saudi Arabia, and Sevilla in La Liga, the Super Cup, and the Copa del Rey final.
In an interview with Mundo Deportivo, Laporta spoke about El Clásico, saying, “El Clásico is the greatest match. The players want to give their best, and I know our team is very motivated.”
He added, “Regardless of who scores first, we’ll have a chance. I’m convinced the players will give us reason to be happy, and that we’ll win at the Bernabéu, just as we did last year.”
He continued, “We’re playing for the top spot, and that’s an added incentive. I had lunch with the team yesterday after training, and they seemed very excited and focused.”
He concluded, “The Bernabéu is a stadium that encourages enthusiasm and focus. Winning there is one of the best feelings you can have in your life.”
Real Madrid enters El Clásico at the top of La Liga with 24 points, two points ahead of second-place Barcelona, the defending champions.
