Barcelona faces a fine after a fan invaded the Johan Cruyff Stadium during a match against Getafe, wearing a Palestinian flag.
In the 62nd minute, a Barcelona fan ran onto the pitch wearing a Palestinian flag in support of Gaza, and the match was stopped until security forces removed him.
According to Mundo Deportivo, La Liga will punish Barcelona for the individual’s incursion into the pitch, not because of the Palestinian flag.
The fine will be based on referee De Burgos’ report, which concluded that the fan did not interfere with the game, as Barcelona scored at the exact moment.
La Liga president Javier Tebas confirmed that Spanish clubs whose fans fly Palestinian flags in the stands will not be punished, considering it an act of freedom of expression and logical solidarity against the genocide in Gaza.
For example, Athletic Bilbao fans raised Palestinian flags at San Mamés during a Champions League match against Arsenal, and UEFA decided not to punish them either.
It’s worth noting that UEFA is considering a proposal to ban Israeli clubs and national teams from participating due to the massacres in Gaza, and a vote is expected within the next few hours.
