The Real Madrid superstar received the ball on the edge of the penalty box before unleashing a powerful left-footed strike that left Iraqi goalkeeper Ahmed Basil with no chance.

With this goal, Mbappe has reached an incredible milestone of 15 goals in 15 World Cup matches, spanning his appearances in Russia 2018, Qatar 2022, and the ongoing 2026 tournament in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

By doing so, Mbappe equals the legendary record of Brazilian icon Ronaldo Nazario, becoming the joint-third highest goalscorer in World Cup history. Ronaldo had also scored 15 goals for the Seleçao, famously breaking Gerd Muller’s record (14 goals) during the 2006 tournament in Germany.

As the historical standings look, Germany’s Miroslav Klose sits with 16 goals, while Argentina’s Lionel Messi recently broke that record to reach 18 goals.

Mbappe has previously stated that he will continue to chase Messi for the title of the World Cup’s all-time top scorer. At just 26 years old, the French forward still has plenty of opportunities to achieve this milestone, both in this edition and future tournaments.
