Al-Ahly coach Marcel Koller confirmed that he wants to “redress” his team’s reputation against Zamalek when they meet in the 2024 Egyptian Super Cup final.
Zamalek qualified for the Super Cup final after defeating Pyramids on penalties, while Al-Ahly won against Ceramica Cleopatra 2-1 in Abu Dhabi.
Zamalek won the last match between the two giants last September thanks to penalty kicks and was crowned with the African Super Cup for the fifth time in its history.
Koller spoke about repeating the derby less than a month later, saying, “We were very disappointed after losing the African Super Cup against Zamalek, especially after the match went to penalty kicks.”
He also added, “We want to restore reputation for losing the African Super Cup final. The players know this very well and want to please the fans and will do their best.”
He concluded, “I hope we will show good levels against Zamalek in the Super Cup final and win the title.”
It is noteworthy that Koller achieved the local Super Cup with Al-Ahly in the last 3 editions, and coincidentally they were also in the Emirates, including once at the expense of Zamalek in the season before last by defeating the White Castle 2-0.
