Egypt finished as runners-up in their group—which included Belgium, Iran, and New Zealand—before advancing to the Round of 32, where they overcame Australia on penalties. They were on the brink of a historic upset against Argentina in the Round of 16, before a late comeback led by Lionel Messi and his teammates sealed the game.

Praising the Pharaohs’ performance in an interview with the official FIFA website, Klinsmann said:

“The Egyptian national team is clearly growing and will soon become a football superpower.”

He added:

“They have the potential to become a team we eventually see among the top 10 in the world in the next 15-20 years.”

The former World Cup winner concluded:

“Egypt has always commanded great respect worldwide. While they haven’t shown it at the World Cup by reaching the semi-finals like Morocco did, they are consistently in the final four of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and possess world-class players in European leagues, which means a lot.”

Following this successful World Cup campaign, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) officially announced the contract extension for head coach Hossam Hassan. “The General” will remain in his position until at least the 2030 FIFA World Cup, scheduled to take place in Spain, Morocco, and Portugal.
