Jurgen Klopp has confirmed he is set to become the new manager of the Germany national team, announcing that an agreement has been reached with Red Bull to allow him to step down from his current role and return to coaching.
Speaking to Magenta TV in New York ahead of the World Cup final, Klopp stated that negotiations are progressing smoothly, though he emphasized that his appointment is not yet official.
“Nothing is completely finalized yet, but the talks have taken place and everything is moving in the right direction,” the German coach said. “I have reached a very generous agreement with Red Bull, so in principle, there is nothing blocking the move.”
He added: “There are still many discussions to be had because we are dealing with a federation, and a lot of people need to be informed. It’s not a done deal yet, but we aren’t far from being able to announce it. In an ideal world, that should happen in the next few days.”
According to Sky Sport Germany, the German Football Association (DFB) has reached a final agreement with Klopp and has provisionally settled the terms of his departure with Red Bull.
The report notes that the remaining steps involve sorting out some of Klopp’s personal advertising contracts and putting the agreement in writing before he signs a contract running until the end of the 2030 World Cup.
Klopp is expected to fly back to Germany following the conclusion of his punditry duties for the World Cup final between Spain and Argentina in New York.
Sky further revealed that the current plan is for Klopp to sign his contract in Frankfurt next Friday, with the DFB officially unveiling him during a press conference on the same day.
Klopp will succeed Julian Nagelsmann, who departed after Germany’s early exit from the World Cup. This appointment marks the former Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund manager’s return to the dugout after serving as the Global Head of Soccer at Red Bull.
