The Argentine striker had requested to leave Atlético during the summer transfer window after becoming dissatisfied with his situation at the club, emphasizing that a move to another team would be the best solution for all parties.

Álvarez has since been linked with a move to Barcelona, but negotiations between the two clubs have made no tangible progress due to significant disagreements over the feasibility of the transfer and its financial valuation.

While Barcelona attempted to explore the conditions required to sign the player, Atlético began reviewing alternative offers from outside Spain in an effort to keep their striker away from one of their key domestic rivals.

According to media reports, Atlético Madrid agreed to sell Álvarez to Arsenal after the English club expressed its readiness to push for the deal and bolster its attacking line.

However, Álvarez rejected the transfer to the Emirates Stadium and informed the involved parties that he does not want to join Arsenal, as he continues to give absolute priority to Barcelona and awaits a shift in Atlético’s stance.

This coincided with reports suggesting a potential swap deal between Arsenal and Atlético, which would see Álvarez join the London club in exchange for Swedish striker Viktor Gyökeres moving to Diego Simeone’s side.

While this idea would provide Atlético with an immediate attacking replacement and solve the Álvarez dilemma without strengthening Barcelona, the player’s refusal to move to Arsenal stands as a major obstacle to its execution.

Álvarez remains adamant about wearing the Barcelona shirt, while Atlético firmly maintain their absolute refusal to sell the player to the Catalan club, regardless of the offer’s value.

Miguel Ángel Gil Marín, CEO of Atlético Madrid, had previously stated his club’s stance unequivocally: “We will not accept an offer of €100m, €150m, or even €200m to sell Julián Álvarez.”
