The newspaper A Bola revealed that José Mourinho was hospitalized before Benfica’s match against Santa Clara in the Portuguese league last Friday.
The Special One suffered from an ear infection and was taken to a health unit in Ponta Delgada, Azores, after waking up in pain and needing medical attention.
The newspaper indicated that the “Eagles” coach received treatment in less than an hour before returning to the hotel hours before the match.
Mourinho then appeared during Benfica’s 2-1 victory over Santa Clara, just days before facing Real Madrid in the Champions League.
Benfica will host Real Madrid on Tuesday, February 17, in the first leg of their playoff for a place in the round of 16, a rematch of their league encounter two weeks prior.
Benfica beat Real Madrid 4-2 to secure a place in the play-offs, and the draw has pitted them against each other again, but this time the second leg will be played at the Santiago Bernabeu next week.
