Speaking to reporters outside his home on Wednesday morning, Jesus had stated the previous evening that he had not yet read Ronaldo’s release, as he was in Leiria attending Portugal’s Under-21 match.

“I have read the statement, and now I am heading to the federation’s headquarters to work and focus on the team and the Portuguese national squad,” the Portugal manager said.

Concluding his brief response, Jesus added: “I have nothing else to say,” swiftly shutting the door on further questions regarding the accusations made against him by Ronaldo.

The 41-year-old forward had accused Jesus of breaking his word on two separate occasions, explaining that the coach informed him prior to the Norway fixture that he would feature for 30 minutes. Ronaldo warmed up from halftime onwards, only to remain an unused substitute.

Ronaldo stated that a meeting held 48 hours later—attended by Al-Nassr Sporting Director Simao Coutinho—resulted in an agreement on an eight-point statement Jesus was expected to deliver at a press conference. The points included clarifying that the player had not demanded to play and that calling him to warm up was a mistake on the manager’s part.

However, Ronaldo felt that Jesus’s public remarks departed from their agreement, prompting him to leave the national team camp ahead of the Denmark match. The captain subsequently issued an apology to fans and teammates, calling on the Portuguese Football Federation to apply any appropriate disciplinary action without leniency regarding his status or captaincy.

Despite the intensity of the rift, both sides have left the door open for a return. Ronaldo reaffirmed his commitment to representing his country once any sanction is served, while Jesus previously noted that the player could return provided he is playing regularly for Al-Nassr and wishes to join—leaving the upcoming squad announcement as the true test for the future of their relationship.
