James Rodriguez has completed his move to a new club, where he will embark on his first experience in Major League Soccer.
The Colombian international left Mexican club León at the end of last year, and for the past month he has been searching for a new club to join before the 2026 World Cup.
Ultimately, Rodriguez officially signed a five-month contract with Minnesota United on Friday evening.
James commented on the move, saying, “I am very happy with this new chapter in my life. I hope to be at my best so that I can bring joy to this city and to all the people who have believed in me.”
The American club’s sporting director, Khaled Al-Ahmad, expressed his delight at finalizing the deal, saying, “We are excited to add his creativity and footballing intelligence to the squad. At the same time, this move is about team strength, not relying solely on one player.”
Since 2019, James has had stints in various countries around the world, representing Everton, Al-Rayyan of Qatar, Olympiacos of Greece, Rayo Vallecano of Spain, and León of Mexico. Now, he begins his career in the United States.
James Rodriguez’s first match with Minnesota will be on February 21st against Austin in the opening round of the MLS season.
