It’s over… Upamecano will not join Real Madrid

After much speculation, Dayot Upamecano has accepted Bayern Munich’s latest offer to renew his contract, which expires at the end of the current season.

The French defender had been hesitant to make a final decision regarding Bayern’s offer, which included a substantial salary of €20 million, along with a signing bonus.

It was reported that Real Madrid had been closely monitoring the situation and considered Upamecano their top target to bolster their central defense next summer on a free transfer.

Ultimately, after intense media pressure from Bayern Munich, Upamecano had to make his final decision immediately, and he opted to remain with the Bavarian giants.

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Upamecano will sign a new contract with Bayern Munich until the summer of 2030.

Other reports indicate that the contract will include a release clause, which can be activated in the summer of 2027, allowing Upamecano to move to any club he chooses for a relatively low fee.

Thus, Real Madrid have missed out on signing both Upamecano and Jacquet (who moved to Liverpool), leaving their only remaining option as Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté.
