English and Spanish media confirmed that Chelsea had completed the agreement with Barcelona striker Marc Guiu to include him during the current summer Mercato.
Barcelona is not involved in these negotiations because there is a release clause in Guiu’s contract with the Blaugrana that allows him to leave this summer wherever he wants for only 6 million euros.
The 18-year-old player was of interest to many European clubs, most notably Bayern Munich, but Chelsea succeeded in convincing the player of his project and it would be his next destination.
Barcelona tried, in one way or another, to persuade Guiu to continue at Camp Nou, but the player feels that his role will not be great in light of the presence of Robert Lewandowski and that he will not have the opportunity to participate continuously, so he preferred to go through another experience.
Guiu was promoted to Barcelona’s first team last season alongside Xavi Hernandez, where he played 7 matches in which he scored two goals, one in La Liga and another in the Champions League.
Despite the technical loss, earning 6 million euros from Goyo’s successor may be beneficial to Barcelona’s coffers in a way that helps it conclude another deal during the summer Mercato in light of the stifling economic crisis of the Joan Laporta administration.
