FIFA President Gianni Infantino had confirmed during the last international break that the Iranian team would participate in the tournament without any issues, without revealing further details.

It is known that Iran submitted a formal request to FIFA to move its three group stage matches to Mexico instead of the United States, given the ongoing trade war between Iran and the US.

The Iranian Sports Minister revealed that his country’s request has not yet received a response, indicating that this could ultimately lead to Iran’s withdrawal, as they currently refuse to travel to the United States under any circumstances.

The minister added, “If the request is accepted, Iran’s participation in the World Cup will be guaranteed. However, FIFA has not yet issued any response.”

He added, “As Minister of Sport, and in cooperation with the Iranian Football Federation, we will maintain the national team’s readiness for the World Cup. However, the final decision will be made by the Cabinet.”

He concluded, “Under these circumstances, the possibility of Iran participating in the World Cup matches held in America is very low. But if the necessary security guarantees are provided, our government will make its decision regarding Iran’s participation in the World Cup.”

It is worth noting that the draw placed Iran in Group G, where they will face New Zealand and Belgium in Los Angeles, with their final group match against Egypt scheduled to take place in Seattle.
