Cole Palmer will miss next week’s match against Liverpool, manager Enzo Maresca announced at his press conference on Friday morning ahead of the Brighton match.
Palmer has been suffering from a muscle injury since the match against West Ham on August 22. He returned after the international break and played against Brentford and Bayern Munich, before leaving the Manchester United match after the first 10 minutes with the same injury.
According to English media reports at the time, Palmer suffered a new muscle tear, with some even suggesting that the England star may eventually need surgery and be sidelined for a long period.
Maresca confirmed before Brighton game that Palmer’s injury is not serious, but he has not yet fully recovered, and therefore will not be at Selhurst Park tomorrow, or next week’s match against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.
Initially, Palmer’s absence is expected to extend during the international break, with the club expected to return for the match against Nottingham Forest on October 18th, barring any setbacks. This means he will have been sidelined for over a month with Maresca’s squad.
Palmer has featured for the Blues in four Premier League and Champions League matches this season, scoring two goals. A few days ago, he was announced as eighth in the 2025 Ballon d’Or rankings.
