Portuguese midfielder Bernardo Silva expressed his delight at starting his Real Madrid career, joining pre-season training under newly appointed manager José Mourinho.
Silva joined the Spanish giants on a free transfer following the conclusion of his spell with Manchester City, signing a two-year contract through June 2028.

“It is a very special feeling, and I am extremely happy to be here; the history of this club speaks for itself,” Silva stated regarding his arrival at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Addressing his ambitions with the club, the 31-year-old added: “My goal is to help the team keep winning, because that is what Real Madrid is all about: winning, winning, and winning.”
On his tactical versatility and team-first mindset, Silva noted: “I am a team player who always tries to make those around me better. I will be ready for whatever Real Madrid needs from me.”
Speaking about working under fellow countryman José Mourinho, Silva said: “We faced each other as opponents in the past, and now we are on the same side. Mourinho means a lot to Portuguese football. I grew up watching his teams, and I am excited for the opportunity to learn from him.”
Explaining his decision to sign with Real Madrid, he revealed: “When Real Madrid came calling, it was impossible to say no. I didn’t think twice. Having played at the Santiago Bernabéu many times as an opponent, I know firsthand the magnitude of this club and how special it is to play in this stadium.”
On his footballing idols, Silva cited Zinedine Zidane and former Benfica playmaker Rui Costa, while also praising Luka Modrić: “Modrić has been a huge reference point for me—a true role model both on and off the pitch.”
Career Summary Prior to Joining Real Madrid
Silva developed through Benfica’s youth system before moving to Monaco in 2014, where he helped secure the Ligue 1 title during the 2016–2017 season.
He transferred to Manchester City in the summer of 2017, becoming a central figure under Pep Guardiola. Over eight seasons, Silva made 460 appearances, scoring 76 goals and winning 20 major trophies, including six Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League, the FIFA Club World Cup, and the UEFA Super Cup.
Internationally, he has won two UEFA Nations League titles with Portugal, earning the Player of the Tournament award in the inaugural 2019 edition.

The acquisition of Bernardo Silva is part of a broader squad overhaul at Real Madrid under Mourinho.
