Achraf Hakimi emphasized that he is doing everything he can to recover in time to participate with the Moroccan national team in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Hakimi suffered a severe ankle sprain in early November following a harsh tackle by Luis Diaz during the Paris Saint-Germain vs. Bayern Munich Champions League match.
PSG announced that the “Moroccan Lion” needs two months to return to action, with the beginning of 2026 being the anticipated date for his return to the pitch.
In recent statements regarding his health, Hakimi said, “My condition is much better; the swelling has disappeared, and I no longer feel any pain.”
He added, “I am optimistic and fully focused on my return. I continue to work hard to reach peak physical condition before the Africa Cup of Nations.”
Meanwhile, Morocco’s national team coach, Walid Regragui, commented on Hakimi’s remarks, saying, “I have absolute confidence in his return for the Africa Cup of Nations. He will come back with great strength and incredible enthusiasm. He will be like a beast when he returns.”
He added, “This break will give him a chance to rest and prepare mentally for the tournament. He will return in time for the Africa Cup of Nations. At least he will rest and be mentally ready for this tournament.”
It is highly likely that Hakimi will not participate in Morocco’s group stage matches against Comoros, Mali, and Zambia, with his return expected in the round of 16, which begins after January 2, 2026.
