Manchester City star Erling Haaland apologized to the club’s fans, taking responsibility for the shock defeat suffered by Pep Guardiola’s team against Norwegian side Bodø/Glimt in the Champions League last Tuesday.
The loss in Norway was City’s second consecutive defeat after losing the Manchester derby 2-0 to United on Saturday, continuing the run of poor results and losses that has plagued the English giants since last season.
Speaking bravely after the loss, Haaland took full responsibility, saying, “I take full responsibility for not scoring the goals I should have scored. I apologize to every Manchester City fan, and to everyone who traveled to support us. In the end, it’s embarrassing, and Bodø/Glimt played great football and deserved to win.”
He added, “With Rodri, Donnarumma, and Tijani Rinders, we, the experienced players, have to take responsibility. What happened is unacceptable. We are Manchester City, and we can’t continue losing games like this.” This defeat significantly reduced Manchester City’s chances of direct qualification to the Round of 16, leaving Guardiola’s team stuck on 13 points. They now await the results of Wednesday’s matches, which will likely see the English club drop into the playoff positions.
It’s worth noting that Manchester City’s loss to Bodø/Glimt was their first defeat against a Norwegian club since 2002.
