Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola confirmed Omar Marmoush’s absence from Sunday’s Premier League match against Manchester United and revealed the tentative date for the Egyptian star’s return to the Etihad Stadium.
Marmoush sustained an injury during Egypt’s 2026 World Cup qualifier against Burkina Faso, and initial tests revealed a severe bruise in his right knee ligament.
At the Manchester derby press conference, Guardiola was asked about Marmoush, and he responded, “The full results of the tests are not yet out, but initially he will be out for several weeks.”
He added, “It is currently expected that Marmoush will be ready to play again before the next international break.”
Marmoush is expected to miss City’s Champions League opener against Napoli, as well as the Premier League match against Arsenal and the Carabao Cup match against Huddersfield Town. He may also return to action against Burnley on September 27, just days before the international break.
It should be noted that Guardiola also announced the absence of Rayan Ait-Nouri and Rayan Cherki from the Manchester derby, with John Stones also doubtful due to injury.
