Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola praised Erling Haaland, considering the Norwegian star now on the same level as Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
Haaland scored in City’s important 2-0 win over Napoli in the English club’s Champions League opener, his sixth goal of the season in all competitions.
Commenting on Haaland’s brilliance, Guardiola said, “He’s scored 50 goals in 49 Champions League games. He’s like Messi and Cristiano. They’re truly from another planet.”
He added, “It’s not as easy as some might think. Haaland is always being watched by more than one defender, yet he can still score so many goals.”
He concluded, “Haaland is a fantastic player and is developing a lot. I’m happy with everything he’s doing with us.”
Haaland joined Manchester City four years ago from Borussia Dortmund for just €65 million. Since then, he has scored 130 goals and provided 21 assists in 151 appearances in all competitions.
The 24-year-old has renewed his contract with Manchester City until the summer of 2034, with a large release clause that can be activated starting in 2027, according to English media.
