Rodri will not be available for Manchester City at the start of the Premier League season after Pep Guardiola announced that the English club’s star player had suffered a new setback.
The Spanish international suffered a cruciate ligament tear early last season and returned for the 2025 Club World Cup, but was injured in the match against Al-Hilal in the Round of 16.
At first, the injury seemed minor, but Guardiola revealed that Rodri is still recovering.
“The injury against Al-Hilal was serious, and he is now gradually improving,” the Spanish philosopher said.
Guardiola has set a target date for Rodri’s return to action for Manchester City after the next international break in September.
Rodri is initially confirmed to miss Wolverhampton’s first Premier League matches, as well as Tottenham and Brighton, but should be available for the big derby against Manchester United after the international break, scheduled for September 14 at the Etihad Stadium.
