Graham Potter’s absence from coaching won’t be long, as he faces a very exciting task ahead.
The English coach was sacked by West Ham about a month ago after a very poor start and disappointing results, which were an extension of the lack of performance since he took over the last six months.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Potter is on his way to take over as Sweden’s national team coach on a short-term contract, hoping to save Alexander Isak’s teammates from missing out on the 2026 World Cup.
The Swedish national team recently dismissed its coach, Jon Dahl Tomasson, due to poor results, with the Scandinavian team currently fourth in its World Cup qualifying group with one point.
Potter’s work in Sweden is no stranger to him. He began his career there with Östersunds, where he spent seven years, from 2011 to 2018, winning the Swedish Cup and leading his team to the Europa League for the first time in its history.
Potter’s first test with Sweden will be a difficult one against Switzerland during the upcoming international break in November. A defeat or a draw will mean the Yellows’ dreams of reaching the European play-offs and, consequently, the end of their World Cup dream.
