Borussia Dortmund announced in an official statement that Emre Can has suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), ending his season.
The Black and Yellows’ captain sustained the injury during his team’s 3-2 loss to Bayern Munich in the 24th round of the Bundesliga.
Throughout the season, the 31-year-old has suffered muscle and knee injuries that have kept him out for much of the current campaign.
Can had just returned from his latest injury to play his ninth match of the season before being forced off at halftime.
The former Juventus and Liverpool player will need at least six to eight months to recover and return to the pitch.
Thus, Can’s dream of playing in the 2026 World Cup with Germany has come to an end, a major blow for the Mannschaft, especially as he has been a key player for Julian Nagelsmann’s squad for the past two years.
