Nico Schlotterbeck has decided that a move to Real Madrid is the best option for him and will fight tooth and nail to become a Real Madrid player next season.
The German defender’s contract with Borussia Dortmund expires in the summer of 2027, and if he decides to leave, his club will agree to sell him next summer to recoup some of their investment.
Schlotterbeck has been on the radar of several Premier League clubs, and he has also been linked with Barcelona and Bayern Munich in recent months.
According to recent reports in the Spanish press, Schlotterbeck wants nothing less than Real Madrid, especially since the Spanish club is looking for a center-back with his qualities to bolster their squad in the upcoming transfer window.
The only remaining obstacle is Borussia Dortmund’s asking price. It is expected that Schlotterbeck’s fee will not be less than €70 million, and Real Madrid’s management is unlikely to pay such a hefty sum for a player whose contract expires in a year.
Real Madrid’s current strategy relies on their strong relationship with Borussia Dortmund’s management to minimize costs and reach a compromise that satisfies all parties.
It’s worth noting that various sources agree Real Madrid considers Schlotterbeck their top choice to bolster their central defense, preferring him to other options like Ibrahima Konaté.
