Galatasaray crushes Juventus with a historic five-goal haul in the Champions League

Galatasaray pulled off a major upset in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 playoff, crushing Juventus 5-2 at Rams Park.

The match was exciting from the start, with Gabriel Sara opening the scoring in the 15th minute, only for Teun Koopmeiners to equalize a minute later, before Juventus regained the lead in the 32nd minute.

In the second half, the home side staged an unexpected comeback, with Nuno Lang leveling the score in the 49th minute and Davinson Sanchez scoring Galatasa’s third goal in the 60th minute.

Juan Cabal received a red card in the 67th minute, leaving Juventus with 10 men. They then conceded two more goals, one by Lang in the 74th minute and the other by Sascha Boët, formerly of Bayern Munich, in the 86th minute.

This is only the second time in their Champions League history that Juventus have conceded five or more goals, the first being a 7-0 defeat to Werder Bremen in 1959.

Juventus now need to win by four goals in Italy to advance to the round of 16, a daunting task given their current form.

It is worth noting that Juventus has been suffering a significant decline recently, having been knocked out of the Italian Cup by Atalanta, then drawing 2-2 with Lazio and losing the Derby d’Italia to Inter 3-2 last Saturday in Serie A.
