Former Manchester United star sues club over ‘incorrect medical advice’

A former Manchester United star has filed a lawsuit against the English club, accusing them of providing incorrect medical advice that contributed to his increased injury rate and his absence from the game.

According to The Telegraph, Axel Tuanzebe, who played for United’s youth teams from 2014 until he broke into the first team in 2017 and left in 2023, accuses his former club of “medical negligence” due to the medical advice they provided him.

United has not yet commented on the complaint, while the player insists that his career would have been different had he received proper treatment since his injury-plagued 2019.

Tuanzebe’s first injury occurred in October 2019, when he injured his thigh during the warm-up in a match between United and Liverpool. He then suffered another injury against Colchester United in December in the League Cup, which ended his season.

He missed the start of the following season due to a foot injury, and suffered another long spell on the sidelines at the start of the 2022-23 season, only returning to training in January of that year. He then joined Stoke City on loan.

Injuries continued to plague Tuanzebe at United, until his contract expired in 2023. He then moved on a free transfer to Ipswich Town, helping them return to the Premier League last season. However, the club’s journey to the top flight was short-lived, and they were relegated again.

The 27-year-old Congolese international joined Burnley this summer to continue his Premier League career.

Tuanzebe was loaned to Aston Villa, Napoli, and Stoke City during his time with United. He also has three caps for the Democratic Republic of Congo and has represented all of England’s youth teams.
