Former Liverpool player John Aldridge rejected Mohamed Salah’s claim that he is a great player, but his contribution to the club is far less than that of other legends at Anfield.
Aldridge represented Liverpool in over 100 appearances in the 1980s and remains a huge fan favorite.
When asked about Salah, Aldridge said, “Salah is a great player, but I still don’t believe he deserves a place among Liverpool legends.”
He added, “He’s been named Player of the Year three times, so I have no doubt he’s one of the best players to have played in the competition. But do I see him as a strong contender for the title of greatest in Liverpool’s history? Not yet.”
He concluded, “For me, Steven Gerrard tops the list of Liverpool legends, given everything he achieved with a squad that wasn’t great in their quest for major titles. Kenny Dalglish will always be among the candidates for Liverpool’s greatest player, and my childhood idol, Roger Hunt, is also there, along with Graeme Souness.”
It’s worth noting that Mohamed Salah is Liverpool’s third-highest scorer in history, having scored 246 goals in 403 appearances in all competitions. He is also the Reds’ all-time leading scorer in the Premier League era, along with numerous other collective and individual achievements.
