Oriol Romeu is close to finding a new club and is on the verge of a move to Saudi club Al-Shabab.
Barcelona announced the mutual termination of Romeu’s contract a few days ago, leaving the player free to transfer to any club on a free transfer.
Al-Riyadh newspaper reported that Al-Shabab had opened negotiations with Romeu in the past few hours, and there is a near-agreement between the two parties on all the details of the deal.
In the next few hours, Romeu and his agent will meet with Al-Shabab management via Zoom to finalize the agreement. The player will then travel to the Saudi capital to officially sign his transfer contract.
This will be Romeu’s first experience outside Europe, having represented Barcelona, Chelsea, Valencia, Stuttgart, Southampton, and most recently Girona.
Romeo, 33, spent last season on loan at Girona and fell completely out of favor under coach Hansi Flick, who preferred the many other options available in midfield. The decision to part ways was a mutual one.
