Former Barcelona president Joan Gaspart launched a scathing attack on Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, calling the prominent Spanish businessman a “cheat.”
He criticized Perez, claiming it was no coincidence that the Catalan club achieved historic successes during the same period in which they allegedly paid what he called “bribes” to former vice-president of the referees’ committee, Jose Luis Negrera.
Current Barca president Joan Laporta responded by stating that Barcelona is Real Madrid’s primary “obsession,” and now Gaspart has escalated the attack.
The former Catalan president said, “The Negrera of Spanish football is Mr. Florentino Perez. Real Madrid has been acting like Negrera for 100 years, and Florentino Perez has been acting like one of them for 25 years. The only cheat here is Florentino Perez.”
He added, “He implies that Barcelona won titles they didn’t deserve. He’s the real fraud, controlling everything, and every now and then, he attacks us and links Barcelona to Benguela.”
Madrid media outlets have indicated that Pérez does not intend to respond to statements from Barcelona at this time, making it unlikely that we will see the Real Madrid president respond again to the fierce attack launched by Laporta and Gaspart.
