For the second time this season, Liverpool are defeated by Galatasaray

Liverpool suffered another defeat, this time in Istanbul at the hands of Galatasaray, losing 1-0 in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie.

The only goal of the match came in the seventh minute when Mario Lemina followed up Victor Osimhen’s header to put the ball in the net.

This is the second time Liverpool have lost at Rams Park, having also lost by the same scoreline in the league.

Had it not been for the brilliance of goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, the Reds could have suffered an even heavier defeat, given Victor Osimhen’s outstanding form and the numerous missed opportunities by the home side.

The referee disallowed two goals in the second half: one by Osimhen and the other an equalizer by Ibrahima Konaté, both due to handball.

Liverpool will need to win by two goals in the second leg next week to reach the quarterfinals.

The winner of the Liverpool-Galatasaray tie will face the winner of the Paris Saint-Germain-Chelsea match in the quarterfinals.
