Saudi club Al-Qadisiyah has dismissed Spanish coach Michel after two and a half years in charge due to poor results.
The Aramco-owned club announced the decision on Sunday, thanking Michel for his contributions and success in leading the team back to the Saudi Professional League, as well as guiding Al-Qadisiyah to the King’s Cup final and a third-place finish in the league last season.
According to The Athletic, Al-Qadisiyah’s management has reached an agreement with Brendan Rodgers, the former Liverpool, Leicester City, and Celtic manager.
The 52-year-old has been without a club since leaving Celtic last October, but remains one of the most prominent coaches in English football over the past decade.
Rodgers boasts an impressive managerial career, having won the Scottish Premiership four times with Celtic, the Scottish Cup three times, and the Scottish League Cup four times. He also won the FA Cup with Leicester City and the Community Shield in 2022.
His time at Liverpool from 2012 to 2015 remains particularly memorable, as he guided the Reds back into contention for the Premier League title, narrowly missing out in the final moments of 2014.
It’s worth noting that Al-Qadisiyah currently sits fifth in the Saudi Pro League standings with 17 points, 10 points behind leaders Al-Nassr. They were eliminated from the King’s Cup in the quarterfinals and lost the Saudi Super Cup semifinals to Al-Ahli last August.
