While Hansi Flick is undoubtedly disappointed after Barcelona’s 4-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey semi-final, he insists his team is capable of a comeback in the second leg at the Camp Nou.
Los Rojiblancos netted four goals in the first 45 minutes at the Wanda Metropolitano, in a match marred by controversial refereeing decisions, including the disallowed goal for Barcelona.
“Qualification is not yet decided,” Flick said after the match. “We will fight in the return leg. We need our fans, and we will give everything against Atletico at the Camp Nou.”
He added, “I am very proud of these players. Sometimes football has its ups and downs, and we managed things exceptionally well. We will come back stronger in the upcoming matches and learn from these lessons.”
He continued, “Today, Atletico showed a great desire to win from the start, and that’s what we will show in the return leg.”
He continued, “I think we started poorly from the beginning, and that’s what happened in the match. There was a lot of chaos, and the goal was perfectly legitimate; there was no offside. It could have turned the game around, but it didn’t.”
He concluded, “We had a great opportunity to come back today. We know the return leg won’t be easy, but we will win. We played better in the second half than the first, but nothing changed. We need to focus on what’s next, and we will put on a great performance.”
