It seems that Real Madrid coach Álvaro Arbeloa has lost the support of one of the most important figures in the club’s dressing room: captain Dani Carvajal.
Carvajal made his fourth consecutive appearance on the bench during Real Madrid’s 2-0 victory over Valencia in La Liga at the Mestalla Stadium.
Since recovering from knee arthroscopy – following the serious injury he suffered in 2015 – the Real Madrid captain has only played in two matches: 14 minutes against Albacete and 15 minutes against Monaco.
Against Valencia, Álvaro Arbeloa sent two clear messages. The first came on the pitch, where he started academy graduate David Jiménez at right-back, later bringing on Trent Alexander-Arnold as a substitute. The second message came in the post-match press conference, where he emphasized Carvajal’s importance in the dressing room while simultaneously asking for patience regarding his return to competitive matches.
According to AS, Carvajal has begun to feel frustrated about being benched, and his relationship with Arbeloa may have started to deteriorate in recent days.
The patience Arbeloa is demanding of Carvajal doesn’t seem to be easy for the Real Madrid captain. At 34, and hoping to remain in the Spanish national team squad before the World Cup, the Real Madrid star continues to wait for his chance to play.
