Zamalek coach Yannick Ferreira will be sanctioned by the Egyptian Football Association’s disciplinary committee for refusing to attend the post-match press conference following Thursday’s Egyptian Premier League match against Bank Al Ahly.
Zamalek drew 1-1 with Bank Al Ahly, marking their fourth consecutive draw after a loss to Al Ahly and draws against El Gouna and Ghazl El Mahalla. This has intensified criticism of the Belgian coach and his management style at the club.
For the first time, Ferreira refused to participate in the post-match press conference without disclosing his reasons. It is speculated that he was aware of the widespread discontent against him and anticipated a harsh questioning from journalists, so he wanted to avoid this embarrassing situation.
According to the Egyptian Premier League regulations, the penalty for failing to attend a press conference for the first time is a warning and a fine of 20,000 Egyptian pounds, which doubles for any subsequent offense.
Zamalek is preparing to face Tala’ea El-Gaish next Sunday before heading to the UAE for the Egyptian Super Cup, starting with a semi-final match against Pyramids on Thursday.
Zamalek currently sits fourth in the Egyptian Premier League standings with 19 points, five points behind league leaders Ceramica Cleopatra.
