Ferran Torres has cast doubt over his future at Barcelona, calling on the club to demonstrate their commitment to keeping him as interest mounts from Paris Saint-Germain.
Uncertainty surrounds the 26-year-old forward following an impressive club campaign, which he capped by scoring Spain’s winning goal against Argentina in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final.
Torres Urges Contract Talks and Respect
Torres issued a clear message to Barcelona’s board regarding his future, demanding that the club initiate formal contract extension talks to prove his value to the squad.
When asked what Barcelona must do to ensure his stay, Torres stated: “They need to show that they truly want me and come to negotiate. In the end, everything depends on discussions between both parties.”
Reflecting on his future, the forward added: “I have a contract with Barcelona, but in football, you never know what can happen. I am just waiting to make the right decision. I don’t know yet what will happen; I just want to be happy.”
PSG Interest and Transfer Status
Addressing reports linking him with a move to Paris Saint-Germain, Torres acknowledged: “To be wanted by clubs like that is a good thing.”
Spanish reports indicate advanced preliminary talks between PSG and the player’s representatives. PSG manager Luis Enrique is eager to reunite with the forward, having previously coached him with the Spanish national team.
However, negotiations between the two clubs have not reached a final stage. Sources close to Barcelona confirm no official proposal has been received from PSG, nor has Torres formally requested a transfer. While Barcelona do not intend to actively list him for transfer, they may consider suitable financial offers.
Contractual Situation and Career Numbers
Torres joined Barcelona from Manchester City in January 2022 for a reported €55 million fee plus variables, signing a contract through June 2027.
The Spanish international has made 205 official appearances for Barcelona, scoring 65 goals. The 2025–2026 season proved to be his most productive campaign at the club, yielding 21 goals in 48 matches across all competitions, including 16 goals in 33 La Liga matches to finish as joint-top scorer alongside Lamine Yamal.
Barcelona intend to initiate contract talks in September due to Financial Fair Play regulations. Notably, extending his contract would trigger an additional €7 million payment clause to Manchester City.
