Robert Lewandowski is likely to move to Major League Soccer (MLS) next summer after his time at Barcelona comes to an end, but according to the newspaper Sport, his new club will certainly not be Inter Miami.
The Polish international is close to leaving Barça in June, as Joan Laporta’s administration has no intention of renewing his contract due to his age and a clear decline in form. The Catalan club has already begun searching for a striker to replace him in Hansi Flick’s squad next season.
Many clubs have expressed interest in signing Lewandowski, both in Europe, such as AC Milan, and in the Saudi League. Recently, a move to America has emerged, with reports suggesting that MLS champions Inter Miami are interested in reuniting the player with the legendary Lionel Messi.
According to Sport, the idea is unlikely to materialize. Inter Miami’s management believes that signing Lewandowski is not sportingly viable given the presence of Luis Suárez and his outstanding performances over the past two seasons. Furthermore, Lewandowski’s high salary would complicate matters financially.
Inter Miami’s management prefers to sign younger players who can contribute for years to come. At the same time, they don’t want to upset Suárez, and consequently, his close friend Messi, which would significantly damage the dressing room.
It’s worth noting that Chicago Fire is the American club most interested in signing the 38-year-old. Talks between the two parties are reportedly very positive, especially since Lewandowski’s family is open to the idea of living in America if they leave Catalonia.
